We are seeking a driven and highly skilled Staff Accountant based in Chattanooga, TN or Austin, TX to support our multi‑site entity, Fillauer (a Hanger, Inc. company). This individual will serve as a key contributor within our growing accounting team and should bring strong technical accounting expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to independently identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues.The Staff Accountant will help ensure accuracy, consistency, follow‑through, and compliance with company policies across the accounting function. Core responsibilities include leading critical components of the monthly close process—such as advanced journal entries, complex account reconciliations, variance analysis, and internal reporting—while also overseeing preparation of audit schedules, documentation, and explanations for both internal and external audits. The role will additionally support and at times lead ad‑hoc projects, process improvements, and cross‑functional initiatives.

 

An ideal candidate will leverage strong Excel capabilities, analytical thinking, and a continuous‑improvement mindset to strengthen internal controls, enhance financial reporting, and streamline accounting workflows. Success in this position requires a collaborative approach, partnering closely with operations and cross‑functional teams to understand manufacturing workflows and ensure proper accounting treatment. Maintaining high standards of documentation, organization, and full ownership of assigned responsibilities is essential. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager, Fillauer.

Your Impact

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and yearly close processes including preparation of journal entries
  • Review expenses at a cost center level for accuracy and understanding of key trends
  • Ensure Balance Sheet accounts are properly calculated, supported, and reconciled
  • Involved in all aspects of External and Internal audit activities
  • Perform analysis as well as assist in reviewing or enhancing analysis and analytical processes and controls
  • Prepare monthly reporting and analysis of certain key balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal SOC documentation and controls, reconciliations, monitor operational/industry/regulatory changes and develop new processes and policies to accommodate accordingly
  • Provide timely responses and deliverables to requests from internal customers from functions including Sales, Customer Service, Procurement, Supply Chain, Technology, and department owners
  • Participate in various department-wide initiatives
  • Perform other job duties and ad hoc projects assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required. CPA is a plus
  • Public accounting and/or public company (SOX controls) is a plus
  • 0-3years progressive Accounting experience
  • Experience and working knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems-preferred
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP
  • Strong Computer skills required, Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel
