The Clinical Extender supports the orthotic and/or prosthetic clinician(s) and performs various tasks that are administrative, operational and/or clinical. The clinical extender may perform both patient and non-patient facing activities, assist in improving clinic productivity, and improve workflow and quality of clinical documentation by charting clinician-patient encounters in real time.
This specific position primarily pertains to Cranial Remolding Orthosis (CRO) patient management. CRO treatment is provided to correct an infant’s head deformity. This is a unique and rewarding aspect of orthotic clinical practice involving a very young patient, anxious parents, a limited window of treatment opportunity, an orthosis that must continuously fit and function properly, and frequent follow-up care. The Orthotist and assisting Clinical Extender must effectively manage both patient and family to produce a successful outcome.
