The Orthotic/Prosthetic Resident has completed their O&P education and is eligible to participate in a provider residency as determined by National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE). Under supervision, direct progressing to indirect, the practitioner resident provides comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic care. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management. The Provider Resident is bound by the prevailing residency rules, regulations and standards set forth by NCOPE as well as the Code of Professional Responsibility from the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC).
Depending on the operational requirements, size of the Hanger Clinic and laws imposed by state and/or local governments, this position may include some or all of the functions listed below:
Knowledge & Skills:
As previously stated, the Orthotic/Prosthetic Resident must have completed their O&P education and be eligible to participate in an O&P provider residency as determined by National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE). A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Orthotics & Prosthetics or a Certificate in Orthotics from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited college or university is further required.
Supervision will be provided by local NCOPE accredited residency director, residency mentor(s) and Hanger Clinic clinical staff as determined by residency director.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to sit, walk and stand; occasionally bend or twist; regularly talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms (to include reaching overhead); and lift molds, equipment and, help patients stand and/or sit, up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be capable of functioning effectively under moderate or high stress levels due to work subject to time constraints, responsibility to deliver, and the need for rapid adaptation within a dynamic work environment. The employee will be responsible for maintaining a safe, clean and orderly work environment. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
